Our Approach and Values
- Respect: to uphold the dignity of each individual in their everyday practice. Especially, to promote respect for the dignity and culture of beneficiaries with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Empowerment: to elicit the active participation of poor communities (women and men, girls and boys) in identifying and tackling factors which inhibit progress towards livelihood sustainability, including HIV and AIDS. Bottom up approach devolving responsibility and bringing means as close to communities as possible, through partners and country program offices.
- Accountability and Transparency: to build trust with and between ourselves and our beneficiary communities, donors, supporters and staff; adherence to codes of good practice of the target communities.
- Impact: to ensure that the program results are identified and that tangible benefits are measured.
- Learning: to build an effective learning organization through dialogue and sharing knowledge and experience in partnerships and networks and documenting.

USEF is a local not for profit non-governmental organization committed towards implementing; Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Community Health and HIV/AIDS; Sustainable Livelihoods; Good Governance, Human Rights; Youth Development; combating malnutrition and Gender and Women Empowerment.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
- To improve self-sustained livelihoods of Malawian communities through promotion of effective partnerships and empowerment of individual households.
- To promote self-resilient community through the implementation 0f Disaster Risk Reduction and management, Natural Resource Management and Governance, and Functional Landscape Approach.
- To influence greater access and knowledge of Community Health Services including HIV/AIDS/SRH/WASH/Non Communicable Diseases ie Diabetes, Blood Pressure.
- To combat child malnutrition.
- To promote ownership and participation of citizens in social and economic programmes by fostering effective engagement by policy bodies and stakeholders at all levels more especially the affected communities.
- To enhance community empowerment and social justice to demand services and rights especially for vulnerable groups such as Children, Youth, OVC, Women, Sex Workers, and poor communities
